Chicago-based songwriting legend Michael Smith
makes his second appearance at Hugh's Room in Toronto
(you may also have seen him at Summerfolk 2003 in Owen Sound).
Author of "The Dutchman," "Spoon River" and other fine songs
recorded by Steve Goodman, Anne Hills and many others,
he began extensive touring only in recent years.
His solo shows also include a generous number of his witty songs,
eg. "Dead Egyptian Blues" (many song lyrics on his website).
He has also written fine music for the theatre,
including the Tony-award-winning play The Grapes of Wrath
and a more autobiographical work.
Norm was thrilled with Michael's moving recording
of Norm's song "John Dale" for
One Voice: A Tribute to Norm Hacking, Vol 1

Recorded May 25, 2003 at Holly Jones Fund benefit concert at L'Arte.
10-year old Holly Jones was the victim of a senseless murder
in early May. This tribute CD is being released on her birthday.
Norm Hacking, one of several performing at the release,
contributed two songs to the double CD project.
